Where did you grow up?
All over the United States. My father was in the Coast Guard and we relocated about every 2-3 years. I graduated from high school in Juneau, Alaska.
Why did you become a doctor and why did you choose your specialty?
My brother was diagnosed with a bone tumor when he was younger. Seeing him go through multiple surgeries and how the nurses cared for him made me want to become a nurse. I also worked as a nurse assistant during college in Pediatrics at Carolina Medical Center and loved working with pediatric oncology patients.
What do you most enjoy doing outside of your clinical practice, when you’re not working?
Spending time with my family. We like going for hikes, bike rides, or going to local parks. I love to read, particularly historical fiction. I also like spending time with my parents on the Eastern Shore of Virginia.
Do you volunteer? If so, where?
I volunteer several days a month at my daughters’ elementary school.
